A Hitchhiker’s Guide To Gaia – Preparing For Climate Change

When it comes to climate change, global warming and the state of the planet Earth, there are many contradictory voices. Many of these voices are affected by motive , others by guilt, whilst the majority are just plain wrong!

There is one scientist whose voice resonates above all the others, a scientist, who at 91 years old, has seldom got it wrong, a scientist who we should all take very seriously. His name is professor James Lovelock.

In a village pub in the 1960′s, the distinguished author, William Golding, convinced Lovelock to name his hypothesis (that the Earth is a highly complex self-regulating system), Gaia, the Greek Goddess representing the Earth. For many years Lovelock observed Gaia from many angles: from space, beneath the oceans, amidst glaciers, as well as in the all important atmosphere. His conclusions about Gaia are now widely accepted throughout the scientific community. His Gaia hypothesis expounds that we are all part of the Earth System, all part of the intricate and living Earth. As such, we all have a role to play, from the algae on the rocks to the clouds in the sky, to the urine we release with certain relief! Gaia as a whole can be thought of as a living super-organism, with our own species identifiable as the most highly developed intelligent species Gaia has ever produced. It is our success as a species and what it has taken to achieve it that could also be the catalyst that leads to one of the greatest tragedy’s that mankind has yet encountered.

The key message is that we don’t have much time and failure to act is not an option we have. “Saving the planet” and the “Green Revolution” are romantic delusions that will speed us faster towards a perilous end. It must be understood that the planet will save herself, if we wish to survive with her, we must take preparatory action.

‘A Hitchhiker’s Guide To Gaia’ is a collaboration with Professor James Lovelock that will investigate his, and others, observations and predictions surrounding Gaia Theory. Human survival is based around the preservation of civilisation with abundant food, water and energy supplies. Lovelock has a poignant message with practical advice for preparing for the future that will soon be upon us.

Can Global Warming save us?

Today at my school, a expert news guy from the weather channel came to talk about Global Warming. AND, he said because scientists took some carbon dioxide from the air and it got colder when they put it back. So, he said that if he’s right, that Global Warming can save us.

Is it possible to decouple economic wealth from carbon dioxide emission rates? Part II

Pacific Institute for Climate Studies Seminar May 31st, 2010, University of Victoria Presented by: Dr. Tim Garrett, Department of Atmospheric Sciences, University of Utah ABSTRACT: Where does money get its value? What physically is economic value? For climate studies, this is a highly relevant question. As the economy grows, so does its emissions of carbon dioxide. And, of course, increasing atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide are changing global climate. In a recently published study, I used a mixture of physical principles and economic data to look at the relationship between civilization’s current global rate of primary energy consumption and its historical accumulation of economic wealth. It was expected that the relationship between wealth and energy consumption rates would be a constant, independent of time. This turned out to be true based on available statistics. The value for the relationship is 9.7 ± 0.3 milliwatts per inflation-adjusted 1990 US dollar. So perhaps money is power. If so, the implications for controlling CO2 emissions rates are rather stark. Merely to stabilize emission rates at current levels, growth in wealth must cease, meaning that the inflation-adjusted GDP of civilization would need to drop to zero. Alternatively, we would need to switch to non-CO2 emitting power supplies at a rate equivalent to building about one nuclear power plant per day. This is unlikely, of course. In fact, because civilization has inertia, it may even be

Is man the cause of the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere? Is carbon dioxide a greenhouse gas? Is the climate warming? A brief look at black body radiation and the infrared spectrum.

Does global warming cause droughts and droughts increase global warming?

A study carried out by the NOAA has reaffirmed a link between the droughts that have plagued many parts of the U.S. and climate change…this study has posited that droughts may in fact be aggravating climate change by hindering the uptake of millions of tons of carbon dioxide.

Using NOAA’s new atmospheric monitoring and modeling system, CarbonTracker, lead scientist Andy Jacobson of the University of Colorado found that the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by soil and vegetation plunged from an average of 650m metric tons a year to 330m metric tons. The culprit, according to Jacobson and his colleagues, is the drought that swept across close to 45% of North America in 2002.

What do you make of this finding? Perhaps another positive feedback that climate models have not taken into account, indicating once again that global warming predictions are too conservative?
Definition of "reactionary science" = science that leads to a conclusion you don’t like.
Or by Jello’s claimed definition, explaining why an apple fell off a tree is just reactionary science! Newton wasn’t the father of physics, he was just a reactionary!

The IPCC Fraud

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is supposed to be the last word on unbiased science concerning global warming. In fact, the IPCC stifles any science that contradicts its man-caused mantra. Rather than hundreds or thousands of IPCC affiliated scientists supporting its conclusion that man is causing global warming, only 4 did so. The IPCC is a fraud. It must not be used to justify cap and trade legislation. Contact your Senator at www.congress.org and tell him or her to vote no on the cap and trade legislation.
