A Hitchhiker’s Guide To Gaia – Preparing For Climate Change

When it comes to climate change, global warming and the state of the planet Earth, there are many contradictory voices. Many of these voices are affected by motive , others by guilt, whilst the majority are just plain wrong!

There is one scientist whose voice resonates above all the others, a scientist, who at 91 years old, has seldom got it wrong, a scientist who we should all take very seriously. His name is professor James Lovelock.

In a village pub in the 1960′s, the distinguished author, William Golding, convinced Lovelock to name his hypothesis (that the Earth is a highly complex self-regulating system), Gaia, the Greek Goddess representing the Earth. For many years Lovelock observed Gaia from many angles: from space, beneath the oceans, amidst glaciers, as well as in the all important atmosphere. His conclusions about Gaia are now widely accepted throughout the scientific community. His Gaia hypothesis expounds that we are all part of the Earth System, all part of the intricate and living Earth. As such, we all have a role to play, from the algae on the rocks to the clouds in the sky, to the urine we release with certain relief! Gaia as a whole can be thought of as a living super-organism, with our own species identifiable as the most highly developed intelligent species Gaia has ever produced. It is our success as a species and what it has taken to achieve it that could also be the catalyst that leads to one of the greatest tragedy’s that mankind has yet encountered.

The key message is that we don’t have much time and failure to act is not an option we have. “Saving the planet” and the “Green Revolution” are romantic delusions that will speed us faster towards a perilous end. It must be understood that the planet will save herself, if we wish to survive with her, we must take preparatory action.

‘A Hitchhiker’s Guide To Gaia’ is a collaboration with Professor James Lovelock that will investigate his, and others, observations and predictions surrounding Gaia Theory. Human survival is based around the preservation of civilisation with abundant food, water and energy supplies. Lovelock has a poignant message with practical advice for preparing for the future that will soon be upon us.

Reducing livestock emissions

We’re working with farmers, industry and other researchers, to explore how we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions in livestock industries while increasing productivity. Almost 70% of the Australian agriculture sector’s emissions come from livestock (including cattle, sheep, goats and pigs). This video shows how our researchers are studying cattle methane emissions to help farmers and land managers understand how they can reduce them. Using dietary and gut microbe improvements, high-tech measurement technology and different stock management methods, scientists hope to establish cheap and simple methods to reduce livestock methane emissions and improve productivity. This research is part of our effort to help Australia reduce the causes of climate change and adapt to future climate conditions. It was funded by CSIRO, the Australian Government Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry and Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA). Footage for this video was contributed by MLA and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). More information: www.csiro.au www.csiro.au

Why did the almighty KNOWING liberals not answer this.. after appering to be Global Warming experts?

Brian… Clouds are very common knowledge with anyone slightly failure with "the global warming" crap.
Steve.. Platinum is key to removing CO2 from air regarding the burning of fossil fuels.

Sorry.. would have to type to much…

IDIOT.

Stop Motion Global Warming

This video was created using stop motion. I created the video using ice cream and a hair dryer, and by taking a total of 144 photographs and putting them together in a sequence i was able to create a stop motion video.

Is this a good essay ?

No one can deny the dangers that pollution causes to our life in many ways, scientists and authors has written many reports about pollution, pollution types, and how pollution effects on our world but no one puts it in consideration neither the community nor the government, so we have to look in this problem seriously and work hard to reach to a solution because if we neglected it, we will have to bear the consequences and dangers resulting from this pollution.
When we look in the causes of pollution we will find that the main reason is the industrial wastes. The second reason is the smoke that comes out from the vehicles we use for transportation. If we look in the past we will see that pollution didn’t exist this is because there were no factories and no transportation to cause pollution.
There are many types of pollution, each one of them has a different effect on our life such as, it causes cancer and reduces energy levels, contribute to raising the rate of global warming and can negatively affect the livestock, so we must be honest with ourselves to face this disaster.
As we see we should work hard to get a solution to prevent or to reduce pollution today such as avoid smoking or at least follow the "no smoking" sign. Use unleaded gasoline in your vehicles; avoid public parties and concerts that need a huge amount of noise to make it, to avoid the noise pollution. Government has to raise awareness in the society to discuss the reasons, effects and solutions of the pollution.
In conclusion we should be more aware and follow the rules and try to preserve our environment as in the past by increasing the size of area of agriculture.
Can anyone help write it better, or add details please ? :)

Why are scientists and "experts" screaming & whining about global warming but do nothing to improve cars and

other technology.
In other words, all of these pinhead scientist with a liberal bias are spending all of their time "proving" that mankind is destroying the planet but they are not inventing any ingenious products or processes to eliminate pollution.
Instead, they mock auto makers, they demand high taxes, and they want to regulate and tax all businesses into a communist-like state.
Why don’t these "geniuses" assemble into a manhattan project or skunk works type program and put their brains where their mouth is and tell us how to get 200 mpg, tell us how to create electricity cleanly, tell us how to heat our homes cheaply and efficiently, tell us how to not rely on oil from terrorist nations.

Instead, they hide behind their bogus computer models and then they tell us all to stop driving and stop being productive.
No solutions, only barking orders.
No technology, only telling us to live like cave men.
to Antarcti –

There are "global warming" experts in every walk of life who demand that we change our behavior. You said that it’s not a climatologist’s job to work on solutions? Since when was Al Gore qualified to be a climatologist? 95% of the big mouths screaming for us all to live like cave men are not scientists at all. Including all politicians, and people like Al Sharpton and movie stars.
If global warming was truly a problem, then scientists wouuld be flocking to find ways to fix the problem at its source. Instead, no one is. They are just commanding and controlling us (or trying to).
to Ken-
If scientists are so noble and principled in their practice, and want to truly help global warming, they would spend more time fixing the problem rather than telling everyone how to behave.
If there is truly a problem, the best and brightest will be truly rewarded for their efforts to solve the problem – not just financially, but professionally.
However in this case, no one is doing a damn thing. They are just screaming at us to stop driving and stop producing. Offering no solutions.
to Cindy -
I guess you couldn’t see the sarcasm in my question. Of course man-made global warming is a hoax. Only communists and brain-washed children believe this crap.

Why Global Warming Won’t Be Stopped — R-Squared Energy TV Ep. 6

By Robert Rapier: One of the most controversial essays I ever wrote was “We Won’t Stop Global Warming.” I got some pretty nasty mail over that, which is pretty typical of the nastiness of that debate. www.consumerenergyreport.com
